86,683 teachers affected by a data leak at IFprofs

On 25 April 2026, IFprofs — the worldwide social network for professionals teaching French, developed and operated by the Institut français — became the subject of a confirmed data leak after a threat actor using the handle ChimeraZ published a database extracted from the platform. Launched in 2015, IFprofs connects teachers, trainers, educational institutions and members of pedagogical communities across more than 130 country sites.

The leaked dataset, weighing roughly 42.8 MB in JSON format, contained around 90,675 user accounts. No specific intrusion vector was disclosed; the actor simply claimed responsibility for exfiltrating and releasing the member database. The information involved is account- and activity-oriented rather than financial.

Exposed data categories included:

• Profile information: names, first names, country, public identifiers and user roles
• Platform activity records: publications, comments, discussions, group memberships and events

At the time of reporting, no official confirmation of the data's authenticity or formal incident response from IFprofs or the Institut français had been published. Because the dataset clearly identifies education professionals and the institutions they belong to, observers warned that it could be abused for targeted phishing, credential-stuffing attempts and fraudulent messages impersonating the platform, and urged members to stay vigilant.
